East Europeans and the Swiss have differing views on many aspects of the modern world, which arise out of various cultural and historical developments. Cliches – about the idyllic and perfect Switzerland (in Eastern Europe) and about the Eastern Block (in Switzerland) – complicate mutual contact as well as the lack of knowledge over similarities and differences. False ideas of each other persist – particularly in joint ventures in the commercial world, though they are often politely concealed.

Error-free mastery of the German tongue cannot always be assumed of otherwise highly qualified people. The consequence is that the contents of texts are often drawn up in poor quality German and their effect is damaged as a consequence. It is true that the ability, in the German tongue, to express oneself correctly and pertinently can be learnt to a degree but it is dependent on talent, similar to that of playing a musical instrument. The person without this talent passes text work to professionals, saves time and enjoys success in those tasks which his actual talents are suited to.

It is legitimate to play with language and a word play or fine point is a small work of art. Where, however, a cheap witticism or gag takes the centre ground, the text loses its veracity and falls into banality. If later no real trust arises, a mutually agreed parting of ways should ensue. comiText allocates a considerable amount of time, in larger commissions, to ensuring that expectations are well understood and ensures, with the client, that a harmonious relationship between the client and translator exists.

With larger commissions, particular care is taken over contact with the client, allowing any misunderstandings to quickly be identified. In so doing comiText ensures it has a proper understanding of its remit and guarantees a highquality product at the end. comiText arranges the particulars of the commission, including joint work, with the client; which will necessarily depend, if an optimal result is to be achieved, upon the nature of the text. (The translation of a standard document would rarely demand a consultation, whereas working closely together would be an absolute necessity in the case of a philosophical text). comiText is open to criticism and is happy to consider later, subsequent changes to the text.
